Code '20 Program Launch - Web Directions

Code ’20 Program Launch

3rd March, 2020

@johnallsopp

The wait is over, and this year’s Web Directions Code program is now available.

Every year we spend months curating a program we aim to be timely, challenging, and extremely professionally valuable for our audience.  This year we’ve brought together a program of both well established as well as brand new speakers, across a range of technologies and areas of practice vital to front-end and full stack developers. Read on for more details, or jump straight to the speakers, or schedule sections of the Code site for all the details.

Remember, don’t wait too long to register as Code has sold out well in advance the last several years and we’ve never had as strong a response as to this year’s pre-release tickets!

Key topic areas for Code ’20

The State of the Web Platform

The foundational technologies of the Web–browser APIs, JavaScript, CSS, HTML and the DOM are continually evolving. But from time to time it’s important to take stock of where we’re at; this year we have several “state of” style sessions, on JavaScript, the DOM, the Web Platform, and CSS.

Performance

Improving the performance of our sites and applications, over the wire, and in the browser has critical user and business benefits, but it is an ever changing challenge. Techniques and practices are constantly updated which is why performance has long been, and will doubtless always be, a key component of the Code program. There’s an entire session dedicated to performance a Code 2020, including Observability and User Happiness, Understanding image compression, Web Assembly at the Edge, and Tuning web performance with just browser APIs.

CSS and HTML

Often somewhat overlooked these days, HTML and CSS continue to evolve, providing developers with better, more secure, more performant tools to do our jobs. This year, in addition to our State of CSS session, there’ll be deep dives into the latest in CSS based layouts, what’s new in HTML, and an explainer on the trickier bits of CSS Syntax like cascade, inheritance, and custom properties. Plus we’ll get you up to speed with real world Web Components.

JavaScript

Of course there’ll be plenty of JavaScript, the hammer in our toolbox as developers, with a comprehensive session on Asynchronous and Synchronous JavaScript, JavaScript debugging, accessible JavaScript, Maths in JavaScript, plus (of course) our State of JavaScript keynote session.

And so much more

There’s so much more 20 sessions across 2 big days, with the complete program online now, this only scratches the surface of local and international speakers. So head on over to the Code 20 site and see for yourself!

All carefully curated from invited experts and hundreds of speaker proposals.

As we have for some years now, Code will sell out in 2020, so don’t wait too long if you don’t want to miss out, and register today!

Great reading, every weekend.

We round up the best writing about the web and send it your way each Friday morning.
