Announcing the Lazy Load program - Web Directions

At the start of 2021 we announced that this year we’ll be hosting 6 online conferences, drawing on what we learned holding our first two in 2020–and today we’re announcing the program for our second of those 6, Lazy Load, focussed on Front End Performance.

Online conferences must be different

We believe online conferences need to be very different from “in-person conferences, online”. Not just in terms of how they’re run, but very importantly, in terms of the content.

While we’re all used to in-person conferences that cover a very broad range of topics, usually not in great depth, online conferences have to be the reverse–tightly focussed, and going deep into their subject area.

Each of our 6 2021 conferences focusses on one aspect of front end engineering–like Hover, our CSS focussed conference, Global Scope, our JavaScript focused conference, and the conference whose program we are announcing today, Lazy Load, which is all about front end performance.

Expert Curation

We’ve put together the program with Henri Helvetica, well known independent front end performance expert, who’ll also MC the conference. Working with experts like Henri ensures we get the program right–as areas of expertise become ever more sophisticated, it’s important to ensure our conference programs are as relevant and in-depth as possible.

Deep, focussed sessions

Drawing on a range of experts from around the world, Lazy Load covers Server Side Rendering, waterfall charts, 3rd party dependencies, native lazy-load, web assembly, edge workers, HTTP/3, QUIC, PWA performance, Synthetic Metrics, Real User Metrics (RUM), core web vitals like Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), First Input Delay (FID) and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), creating a Performance Culture, Caching, and we’ll hear from the W3C WebPerf Working Group’s co-chairs on where performance standards are headed.

We did say in-depth.

Featuring Web Page Test’s Patrick Meenan, Google’s Annie Sullivan, Head of Frontend at the UK’s Government Digital Service Matt Hobbs, and over a dozen expert speakers in total, Lazy Load will keep you up to date with what you need to know about front end performance in 2021.

Early bird tickets start from just $145. We hope to see you there!
