Google to Introduce New Google+, Retire Classic Version

January 18, 2017

Google announced on their blog that they will be retiring classic Google+ on January 24th and releasing three new updates in the next couple weeks.

In their blog they said:

“With this latest round of updates, we believe the new Google+ is really your Google+— designed around your suggestions, requests and needs. It also means it’s time to say goodbye to classic Google+ on the web, which we’ll be turning down on January 24. Just because we’re bidding adieu to classic Google+ doesn’t mean we’re done working on the new one. Our aim is to make Google+ the best place to connect around the things you care about, so please use the “Send Feedback” link in the apps and on the web to keep the feedback coming. We’re listening”

Here are some of the new features coming to Google+:

Hiding Low Quality Comments

Within Google+, Google will hide comments that are lower in quality so the user can focus on comments that matter the most. All comments can be visible with just a couple clicks.

Less White Space, More Posts

Google said they want to better utilize your screen’s size and so less white space will be used. Photographers will be pleased to know that a zoom functionality has been added to photos uploaded to G+ as well.

Event Creation

Google is bringing back the ability to create events on Google+, but not on G Suite. This will roll out on the 24th of January.
