Welcoming IBM as a technology partner for Code://Remote

1st September, 2020 @johnallsopp

IBM has been in the technology industry for well over a century. In many ways for a long time it was the technology industry.

A key to that longevity is the ability to continue to evolve.

One area I’ve focussed a lot of my thinking about in recent years is what we loosely call AI (here’s a snippet from a presentation I did at O’Reilly’s Velocity Conference a couple of years back on this topic), and how these technologies, which are becoming far more easily usable with the advent of Web based APIs, are opening up vast new areas of product innovation.

At the forefront of these “cognitive services” has been IBM, and their Watson technologies.

With speech-to-text, natural language processing, visual processing, and many other capabilities easily accessed via web-based APIs, small product teams can add new features and build whole new products in ways that simply weren’t possible even a handful of years ago.

With our new conference video platform Conffab, and as we’ve moved our conferences online, we’ve been exploring the use of IBM’s technologies to make video-based content much more valuable, by surfacing concepts, and key ideas from hundreds of hours of presentations, extracting the text of slides, and more.

We’re really excited about how these technologies will help us deliver even more valuable and engaging conferences, and really recommend you take a look at what’s possible.
