DMOZ is Closing Down After 18 Years

March 1, 2017

On March 14, 2017 DMOZ – The Directory of the Web – will shut down, according to their website.

DMOZ was created as “GnuHoo” in June of 1998 and quickly changed names to “NewHoo” – becoming the main rival of Yahoo Directory. Both DMOZ and Yahoo Directory were both websites that tried to organize the web (before Google) with humans, rather than machines.

While Google, Yahoo, and Bing all came – DMOZ was kind of left behind and essentially became forgotten.

Meanwhile, we are still waiting for our link to be approved – hopefully in the next two weeks 🙂
