Speak at Web Directions events in 2018
Presenting on a topic is a great way to really get to understand it. Whether it's something you already know well, or something you think is important that you want to learn more about, you'll benefit from really digging deeply into it, and your audience will benefit from the knowledge you share.
Whether you've never spoken before, spoken internally at your company, at a meetup, or a conference, we're always looking for speakers for our conferences and other events.
In 2018, we have several conferences planned, across a range of topic areas. These fall broadly into two categories, Design and Development. If you're a Design professional, jump to details about design presentations. If your a front end engineer, jump to the associated section.
For Design focussed professionals
If you are a Design professional in the broadest sense, from Product to IxD to UX, Design Research to Content Strategy, Visual Design to Typography, we have two key events.
Web Directions Design in April in Melbourne is a single track Design focussed conference. Like most of our events, it mixes longer (45-50 minute sessions) with shorter (20 minute) sessions. Generally longer sessions are from invited experts, local and international, while shorter sessions are chosen from a Call For Presentations process, which is open from December 1st 2017 to February 2nd 2018.
Web Directions Summit takes place November 8 and 9, and features a Design track. The CFP for Summit opens December 1 2017, and closes early May 2018. It too features longer and shorter sessions.
We have a single form for proposing Design sessions at our conferences, as depending on the balance of the program, a session may in our estimation be better suited to one event or another. If you are only able to make one of these events, you can indicate this in the CFP form below.
What do we look for?
We are for the most part looking for shorter, 20 minute sessions. This format typically suits very focussed presentations, that zoom in on a single idea or concept. Recent sessions along these lines include:

For engineering focused professionals
As with our design conferences, our JavaScript, front-end development and engineering focussed conference Code, and engineering track at Summit mixes largely invited long sessions with shorter, 20 minute sessions drawn from our Call For Presentations.

John Allsopp
John Allsopp has been working on the Web for over 20 years. He's been responsible for innovative developer tools such as Style Master, X-Ray and many more. He's spoken at numerous conferences around the World and delivered dozens of workshops in that time as well.
His writing includes two books, including Developing With Web Standards and countless articles and tutorials in print and online publications.
His "A Dao of Web Design" published in 2000 is cited by Ethan Marcotte as a key influence in the development of Responsive Web Design, who's rightly acclaimed article in 2010 begins by quoting John in detail, and by Jeremy Keith as "a manifesto for anyone working on the Web".
