Announcing digi-gili

Diversity, and the place and role of under represented people in our industry has, sadly, yet again been front and centre in online conversations recently.

At Web Directions, having completely messed this issue up with our very first conference 10 years ago (yep, no women speakers), we’ve since worked hard to help increase the diversity of our events and industry.

Which is why we’re really proud today to announce a new program for this year’s Web Directions, which we hope will be only the start of something special: digi-gili (more on the meaning of this in a moment).

Developed along with the National Centre for Indigenous Digital Excellence (IDX), and generously supported by Github, digi-gili is a program to help better connect leading Indigenous entrepreneurs in the Web and digital arena with our broader industry.

Seven indigenous entrepreneurs will be attending the conference and showcasing their work at the conference. So if you’re attending, make sure you see what they’re up to, and learn more about the fantastic IDX program and how you might be able to get involved.

Oh, and “digi-gili”? Gili means ‘fire’ or ‘spark’ in the Dharawal language. Our goal is to start a digital fire. We hope you’ll join us.
