ABC Innovation is responsible for a number of ABC websites including the ABC Homepage, ABC mobile applications (iPhone, iPad and Android) and working closely with other ABC divisions to develop the many digital products the ABC offers.

We are currently looking for an experienced front-end web developer to join our team to help across a number of high profile projects.

To be successful in this role, you will have experience working in high volume, high traffic environments. You’ll possess excellent HTML, CSS and JavaScript skills, with experience in one or more server-side languages an advantage. You should have a passion for developing front-end code and user interfaces using modern techniques and quality processes. As an advocate for development best practice, you will be expected to possess strong knowledge of security, accessibility, performance and search engine optimisation.

As a senior member of a larger development team, you will also be expected to contribute to the best technical solutions within a complex technical environment. You will be passionate about development process best practice, with extensive experience and knowledge of issue tracking, version control and software development methodologies.

You are an energetic, dynamic and collaborative team member with great communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills and a genuine enthusiasm for digital and pride in the quality of your work.

Key Accountabilities:

• Provide solid technical development skills within ABC Innovation’s Technology team.

• Develop interfaces and views for websites using modern development techniques.

• As part of a project team, provide analysis, design and development of complex, re-usable components and functionality for a broad range of uses across various ABC digital properties.

• Maintain a professional approach to documentation, including project documentation for ongoing reference once a project is completed.

• Maintain a high level of awareness of best practice in the industry particularly in regard to security, performance, accessibility and development processes.

• Improve the quality of output by contributing to the development of best practices and development standards.

• Actively promote the ABC Values and apply all relevant policies and guidelines including Editorial Policies, Equity & Diversity and Work Health & Safety.

Key Capabilities/Qualifications/Experience (Selection Criteria)

1. Qualifications in a computing related field or significant industry experience in web development is essential.

2. Excellent HTML, CSS and JavaScript (core JavaScript as well as frameworks) skills, with experience implementing these across multiple platforms (desktop, tablet and mobile principally) and browsers for large scale web sites is essential. At least one server side language is preferred.

3. Demonstrated experience using modern development toolsets (e.g. SaSS, Grunt.js) and quality processes such as unit testing, issue tracking, and version control (Git preferably).

4. Demonstrated experience and ability to provide leadership in UI development with demonstrated experience in software design, security, accessibility and performance best practices in a large scale environment.

5. Ability to collaborate effectively using well-developed interpersonal, strong oral and written communication skills and a proven ability to convey or translate complex technical information to target audiences is essential.

6. Highly developed organisational skills with a commitment to meeting deadlines within an enterprise development team, as well as experience in working within a Scrum or other Agile process. Any training or qualifications in Agile is an advantage.
