What XBOX One Means To Local Search

by Dean Iodice on November 19, 2013

In case you don’t know, the next gen gaming system XBOX One is set to be released this month and it’s changing the way people will be interacting with their home entertainment systems. It’s so much more than video games. Microsoft has integrated the Bing search engine into the XBOX One system. Right now it’s designed to search movies, games and music using voice search but how far away are we from searching for the local plumber. How far are we from your customers being able to have a mobile camera and you being able to diagnose or quote plumbing problems without driving out to a customers home. How much money will this save your company driving from house to house only to quote and not get the job?

Google Hummingbird the tip of the iceberg

Technology is changing at a rapid rate and search engines are getting smarter with this progression. Google recently released it’s Hummingbird update that is designed to make search smarter. Today people are searching using questions as opposed to just typing keywords. We are seeing lower percentages of people searching city+plumber today more than ever. Analytics are showing us that more people are searching what is called long tail keywords. They are very specific about what they are looking for and searching in the form of a question. Google wants to deliver their search results based on this, so content should be written in a Q&A fashion to cater to these searches.

So how far away are we from voice search using devises like XBOX One and even Google TV to find the local plumber? Not as far off as one might think.
