• Permanent Full Time Position

Objective

To manage and maintain the ABC News website and associated services. The role requires the implementation of front end solutions and web standards and the ability to work as part of a team. Demonstrated online skills together with knowledge of and enthusiasm for online as a medium are a must, as well as pride in the quality of your work.

Key Accountabilities:

•Work as part of a team to develop complex, re-usable web based interfaces for a broad range of projects.

•Work closely with managers, designers and editorial staff to develop, test and deliver front end solutions.

•Liaise with back end developers to integrate, test and debug front end functionality with back end applications and databases.

•Maintain a high level of awareness of best practice in the industry for areas such as emerging standards, accessibility, and SEO.

•Maintain a professional approach to documentation.

•Be prepared to learn new skills and work on new and emerging platforms.

•Actively promote the ABC values and apply all relevant policies and guidelines including Editorial Policies, Equity & Diversity and Work Health & Safety.

Selection Criteria:

1.Excellent HTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills with experience implementing complex, modular, progressively enhanced front ends that work across multiple browsers, including preparing images for the web from Fireworks/Photoshop designs.

2.Experience using JavaScript libraries (such as jQuery). Demonstrable experience in the techniques of asynchronous JavaScript using JSON and XML.

3.Experience using CSS frameworks and grid-based layouts.

4.Experience using version control and an issue-tracking system.

5.Experience developing mobile websites or apps would be desirable.

6.An understanding of web standards, accessibility, and SEO principles.

7.Basic experience with any server side scripting languages and Linux server administration is desirable.

8.Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience working with design teams and back end teams.

9.Strong problem solving skills to find the best and most efficient solutions to complex technical front end challenges.

10.An interest in news and current affairs is desirable
