The ABC, in partnership with Education Services Australia recently launched a new online education website ABC Splash http://abc.net.au/splash. This website provides a library of quality digital media content and interactive learning resources for educational audiences.

We are seeking an experienced Java Developer to join the Digital Education team and help shape this new cross platform project. The position will be based in the ABC Innovation team in Ultimo which manages the ABC online, ABC mobile, emerging platforms and technologies and new content initiatives.

As part of a project team you will contribute to the next stage of the website development and new interactive learning projects. You will work with the Digital Education team to deliver a robust and flexible solution for the ABC’s current and future web publishing needs.

Key Accountabilities:

• Responsible for design and development of backend solutions for the production and support of ABC Splash website within the ABC’s content management environment built within Liferay.

• Provide regular status updates and feedback on progress to technical project manager.

• Develop and test applications in accordance with development standards and best practice.

• Define and take ownership of technical issues and deliver fixes to resolve support incidents and problems.

• Independently plan and carry out tasks to ensure on-time delivery.

• Work with technical project manager, senior java developer, front end developer and other team members within an Agile development environment to delivery high quality code and solutions.

• Improve the quality of team output and solutions by contributing to technical reviews.

• Actively promote the ABC values, and apply all relevant policies and guidelines including Editorial Policies, Equity & Diversity and Work Health & Safety

Key Capabilities/Qualifications/Experience (Selection Criteria)

1. Tertiary qualifications in a computing related field, together with some experience in web/portal development in Java CMS and J2EE environment.

2. Highly advanced knowledge and skills in analysis, design and programming with particular emphasis on CMS and J2EE applications. Some experience with Spring Core and Spring MVC an advantage. JSP, JSTL, and XML are essential, and skills in HTML, CSS and Javascript highly desirable. Experience in Liferay or similar CMS an advantage.

3. Experience with development techniques and tools such as JIRA, Git, Maven, Jenkins, eclipse and junit.

4. Demonstrated experience identifying and solving technical problems using diverse research and development techniques.

5. Demonstrated experience technical development throughout the full lifecycle of analysis, developing, implementation and support to ensure achievement of milestones and goals. Experience with Agile software development (Scrum).

6. Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment with well developed verbal and written communication skills and proven ability to convey or translate complex technical information to target audiences is essential.

7. Highly developed organisational skills with a commitment to meeting deadlines and an understanding of project management principles, application development methodologies with experience in the use of quality processes and testing.

8. An understanding of, and commitment to, the ABC's aims, objectives and workplace values, together with relevant policies and guidelines including Editorial Policies, Equity & Diversity and Work Health & Safety.
