For Immediate Release

(St. Louis, MO, July 2012) Home Care Association of Florida will be holding their annual conference July 22-26, 2012 in Orlando Florida.

The speaker line-up includes Valerie VanBooven RN BSN who will be speaking on marketing, specifically about growing a home care business using online strategies.

This is a critical time for home care agencies across the country, but especially in Florida. In an effort to identify and drive out fraud and abuse in our state, honest providers are finding it difficult to survive and need to quickly find strategies to adapt to the new world of Accountable Care Organizations, bundled payments, value-based reimbursement and ever increasing scrutiny in the form of audits and claim reviews.

This is a time of consolidations, reductions in reimbursement and new competition. Agencies are finding it necessary to close branches, combine businesses and form new partnerships in order to survive. Medicare, Medicaid and managed care are continuing to cut their reimbursement rates. New competition is here and gaining strength in the form of hospitals, physician groups and new alternative care models that are looking to add home care as an extension of their care settings in order to reduce their readmission rates and maintain more consistent control and payment for the care of their patients.

All of these changes are underway and at the same time, scrutiny in the form of surveys has never been more common or compliance more confusing to meet. The focus of Medicare surveys has recently changed, Florida state surveys are becoming more numerous, Zone Program Integrity Contractor request for information have increased, Recovery Audit Contractors have begun to focus on home health, Palmetto GBA has issued a record number of ADRs. So for all of these reasons and more, it is no exaggeration that home care is facing some very serious challenges.

The good news is that the fate of home care is certainly far from doom and gloom. Home care has enormous potential in the coming years with the baby boomers continuing to age and the need for less costly forms of care are in higher demand than ever from all payor sources. Time is of the essence though for those agencies that are going to succeed. Our goal as your Association is to provide a conference that has the tools and knowledge your home care agency needs in order to flourish and prosper in the year ahead. This conference with strive to have as little “fluff” as possible in terms of content for attendees, and with more than 50 sessions for Medicare-certified and Private Duty agencies, there is something for everyone!
