Research In Motion® at Web Directions Code

It’s no secret that at Web Directions we’re huge fans of the core, open technologies of the web — HTML, CSS and JavaScript in particular. So, we’ve been following with particular interest as platforms begin adopting these technologies as key technologies for developing native applications. One of the first of these platforms was BlackBerry® Tablet OS by Research In Motion (RIM®) , the operating system on the BlackBerry PlayBook™ tablet.

By opening up their platforms (Tablet OS and BlackBerry 10™, the operating system for the next generation of BlackBerry smartphones) to developers with HTML/​CSS and JavaScript skills, RIM gives these developers fantastic opportunities to reach new users, and create new markets using these existing skills.

RIM is a key supporter of our upcoming, first ever HTML5 and JavaScript focussed Code conference in Melbourne, helping make it even more awesome (you should check out the lineup, a veritable who’s who of the local and international web development community, and the social calendar (hey, Melbourne has some of the coolest venues anywhere, so it would be remiss of us not to sample some)).

Do look out for Christopher Saunders (@csaunders_ca), who leads the developer relations efforts down in Australia and his colleague Justin Lee (@triplez82). These guys are passionate about web technologies. They’ll be running some fun activities at their booth. Bring along your web Content (or URL) and watch them transform it into a full-​​fledged native app in just a few minutes.
