Interaction Developer/ Designer, ABC Open at ABC Radio Multiplatform

We need a good Interaction Developer/ Designer to join the ABC Radio Multiplatform team building genuinely interesting, high profile projects.

The job is working on ABC Open, a project to bring social media and regional users together. We’re working on geography, participation and the semantic web technologies.

In 2011-12, the Design and Development team will be continuing work on implementing the ABC Open strategic product roadmap. This involves completion of a purpose built framework for ABC Open, employing a domain driven design methodology.

The successful applicant will be responsible for interaction design and development processes for creating great user interactions for the ABC Open website and mobile platforms:

1. Interactive web page development using advanced javascript jQuery framework.

2. Implementation of page views from high fidelity designs to HTML 5 & CSS 3 pages using PHP.

3. Adhere to ABC accessibility and usability guidelines in implementation.

Objective:

To assist in developing the websites, mobile presences and social media spaces for ABC Open and ABC Radio’s online and broadband content.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Under direction, develop interfaces for people to view, exchange, consume and interact with online media, largely in HTML/CSS and Javascript, including: – interactive web page development using advanced javascript jQuery framework. – implementation of bespoke page views from high fidelity designs to html & css pages using PHP.
  • Maintain and apply excellent skills in and knowledge of front end code, including documentation and cross browser testing.
  • Collaborate on planning and implementation of online projects with designers, other developers, managers, content staff and other staff inside and outside the Radio Division.
  • Share knowledge and skills with relevant staff inside and outside the Radio Division, and coach less experienced development staff.
  • Actively contribute to a creative, innovative, culture of excellence within the Radio Networks, ABC Open, the Radio Multiplatform team, and the wider ABC.
  • Advocate and apply ABC values and all relevant ABC policies and procedures including Equity & Diversity and OH&S.

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated highly advanced expertise in using scripting and markup languages including HTML, CSS, javascript frameworks and libraries to develop usable, accessible, attractive online interfaces and tools. Knowledge of PHP and/or XML an advantage. Graphic design skills also an advantage.
  • Demonstrated highly advanced talent in and knowledge of current front end development principles, covering standards, accessibility and performance.
  • Demonstrated outstanding teamwork, verbal and written communication skills, with experience working with UX Designers, and other Developers.
  • Demonstrated outstanding skills in planning and prioritising projects and tasks working under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Strong customer service, written and verbal communication skills, to a range of audiences, during all project phases, from instigation, through requirements gathering, development and closing.
  • Highly motivated and able to identify key issues and take appropriate action.
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field, such as computer science, multimedia, interactive development or another is highly desirable.
  • An understanding and commitment to relevant ABC policies and practices, including Editorial Policies, Corporate Equity & Diversity Policies, OH&S Policies, and their relevance to online development.
