Mobile Applications Developer at Australian Broadcasting Corporation

ABC Innovation provides technical, editorial and creative leadership for the whole of abc.net.au, with an emphasis on the delivery of great user experiences across multiple devices and screen sizes. We have lead the development of some of the most popular apps in Australia, including the award-winning ABC iPhone app, triple j Unearthed mobile, plus the three iPad applications ABC, ABC iview and Foodi.

We are expanding and looking for a talented mobile applications developer to join our team to work on some exciting, high visibility projects.

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated experience developing iOS applications across both iPhones and iPads with superior skills in Objective-C and strong knowledge of the iOS SDK. Any experience in other platforms such as Android would be considered highly desirable. You will also be required to have strong knowledge of web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and data formats such as XML and JSON.

You will also possess highly advanced skills and knowledge in analysis, design and programming, with the ability to advise on the best technical solutions within a highly complex technical environment.

You are an energetic, dynamic and collaborative team member with great communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills and a genuine enthusiasm for digital and pride in the quality of your work.

Key Accountabilities:

• As part of a project team, provide analysis, design and development of complex mobile applications.

• Maintain a professional approach to documentation, including drafting initial functional specifications documents and project documentation for ongoing reference once a project is completed

• Maintain a high level of awareness of best practice in the industry and existing standards and practices within the organisation.

• Research and critically appraise new and emerging technologies and platforms, and be prepared to learn new skills.

• Advocate and apply ABC values and all relevant ABC policies and procedures including Equity & Diversity and OH&S;

Key Capabilities/Qualifications/Experience (Selection Criteria)

1. Tertiary qualifications in a computing related field or equivalent.

2. Demonstrated experience with and understanding of the Objective-C programming language and the iOS SDK, including demonstrated experience developing iOS applications for both iPhone and iPad. Experience in other languages such as C, C++ or Java is desirable.

3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of other web technologies HTML, CSS and JavaScript as well as popular data formats such as XML and JSON.

4. Demonstrated understanding of the performance challenges when developing applications for mobile devices and techniques to overcome them.

5. Demonstrated experience leading technical development throughout the full lifecycle of analysis, design, development, implementation and support to ensure achievement of milestones and goals.

6. Ability to collaborate effectively using well-developed interpersonal, strong oral and written communication skills and proven ability to convey or translate complex technical information to target audiences is essential.

7. Highly developed organisational skills with a commitment to meeting deadlines and an understanding of project management principles, application development methodologies and experience in the use of quality processes and testing.

8. Understanding and commitment to the ABC’s aims, objectives and workplace values, together with relevant policies and guidelines including Editorial Policies, Equity and Diversity and OH&S;
