Challenges - Libraryhack

[edit] The Challenges

Mashup at the Mitchell is all about using the datasets and collections of the State Library of NSW. These can be found on this page here, under "State Library of NSW".

There's a $1000 cash prize for the team or individual who presents the best work on the day, as well as passes to upcoming events at the State Library, and a print from the library's copyright free collection. All this on top of a bunch of our famous robots, and free movie passes to see the upcoming feature Source Code.

Here's what you might do on the day:

  • Create mashups using the Library's recently digitized, and unique, collection of maps and photographs of Sydney and Australia going back centuries
  • Help people explore the Library's large collection of newspapers published all over NSW since 1788 - or use this information to create interesting data visualizations
  • One for the visual designers - design a creative image by mashing up rights-free digital images from the collections released in library datasets with any other rights-free content
  • Mashup maps with fascinating data and images of the many war memorials around NSW, and information about the service men and women remembered there

Full details of the challenges and prize categories will be released closer to the date - start thinking now!
