Apps4NSW — In the tradition of Amped and GovHack

Back in late 2009, we were privileged to be asked by the Australian Government 2.0 Taskforce to run an event encouraging developers, designers and others to build great applications with open government data. The success (and downright plain fun of GovHack) got us here at Web Directions wondering how we could run more such events — and lead to Amped, which we debuted at Web Directions USA and South last year (and will be holding more of, rest assured).

Now the NSW Department of Services, Technology and Administration has asked us to help organize apps4nsw, a fun, action packed day of developing apps, data visualizations, and more using NSW Government data. It’s at the Powerhouse Museum, Saturday Feb 19th.

appsnsw is not just for devs by any means — designers, UX/IxD experts, data viz folks, project managers — whatever your skills and passion, there’s opportunities to let them shine. And if you are a student, this can be a great way to get a foot into the industry too.

apps4nsw is free, fully catered (including top flight barista made coffee all day), and wraps with a great awards party. But, places will go fast, so sign up now!

NSW is opening up some great new (and often real time) data for things like transport and weather, giving plenty of scope for very cool apps and more to be built.

So, sign up now, and we’ll see you in a few weeks at the Powerhouse!
