Congratulations to Remember the Milk

My other favourite Aussie web app just goes from strength to strength. Congratulations to Emily and Omar at Remember the Milk for taking out the category of Best iPhone Web Application in the Apple Design Awards recently announced at WWDC.

I know this will be rubbing the curmudgeons out there the wrong way, but my word on the street is that even here in the data plan hell of Australia, this is where all the cool kids are at right now.

I’m new on the Aussie web app scene, or will be soon anyway. If Aus is where all the cool kids are, who are the cool kids? Other than RTM & Campaign Monitor I don’t know of any successful Aussie web apps, yet.

Well, firstly, as much as “I love my country”, if I’m going to “keep it real” around here, I’m afraid I would not go so far to say in 2008 that this is where all the cool kids are in web. Australia is a cool place to live where you can pretty easily attain a very comfortable lifestyle, but Silicon Valley it ain’t.

Having said that, there is definitely a scene, and, beyond the good people I mention above, off the top of my head, you should also check out:

    Redbubble

    Atlassian

    Tangler

to name just a very few big famous local success stories. To get a full coverage of the local industry, I would watch this space.
