A gentleman called Benjamin Pena contacted me recently about an interesting situation regarding online Videos and DVD’s.

He estimates there are *30 Million deaf people in the USA alone who have an extensive or profound hearing loss. This group includes elderly people, and they have hard time listening to video and DVDs. Their ability to hear sounds are being degrading quickly. Hard of Hearing people often have extensive hearing loss resulting from harsh noise environments such as loud music, long term exposure to high level noises, etc…

The answer is subtitles

Foreigners, who have limited speaking/reading in english can also benefit. If your website or DVD doesn’t offer subtitle or caption on video you are losing potential visitors or buyers.
