Search Engine Friendly Design

Written by Kevin Harper

Search engine friendly design (SEF design) is a passion of mine. Too many websites out there look fine to the human eye, but are virtually invisible to Google, Yahoo, MSN, or the other search engines. My job is to educate my clients about how search engines view their websites.

There are principles of good layout, graphic design, HTML coding, writing, and URL organization that have a dramatic effect on search engine ranking. In some cases, simple changes to the structure of a web site can improve search ranking within days.

I specialize in creating websites that are search engine friendly in both their design and content. Content is king in the world of search engines, of course, but before content can be seen properly by Google or Yahoo, search engines need to be able to understand what your site is about and which pages are most relevant to be shown in search engine results pages (SERPs).

So before I ever start writing your search optimized content, I customize the content management system (Joomla) so that search engines will want to crawl your site regularly. This is the first step to insuring the hard work of writing good copy pays off with maximum search engine visibility.
