You breathe performance. When you see new features, you first wonder how fast they are and if they will scale. You are metric driven and you get numbers for everything. As part of the Performance Engineering team at Atlassian, you’ll be using our kick-ass toolset to keep developers thinking about performance at every step of the development life cycle. You’ll evangelise performance and know that every time you help a product improve you are improving the experience for the hundreds of thousands of people who use Atlassian products daily.

Position Summary

Become a member of our highly effective Performance Engineering team, analysing our software products for performance bottlenecks and inefficiencies. You will spend time working closely with development and operations teams testing, training and providing valuable knowledge.

What You’ll Do

• Write scripts to populate large scale data sets for performance testing
• Identify common product usage patterns in the customer base
• Maintain a realistic test environment, including load balancer, web server, application server and database server
• Eliminate variables in the test environment and test methodology
• Tune configurable parameters in the environment, application server, product and RDBMS to maximise overall system performance
• Assist developers with profiling code to find bottlenecks and resource leaks
• Write performance reports that document system performance and the assumptions under which those results hold

• Automate manual steps where possible and make tests repeatable

Key Skills

• Programming experience with Java, C or C++
• Scripting skills with Perl, Python, Ruby or UNIX Shell
• Experience managing web applications
• General Windows and UNIX system administration skills
• General knowledge of the Java virtual machine, including heap size, garbage collection and threading
• Knowledge of statistical concepts, such as standard deviation, mean, median, mode and hypothesis testing
