You think matching code to design should be both efficient and elegant. You’ve worked in environments with messy front ends and forged them into neat semantic architectures. You want to push the boundaries and build real web applications in best-practice ways. You love solving hard problems with elegant practical code. You love the challenge of being one of a cadre of UI-savvy experts amidst an organisation that’s 50% back-end developers.

Responsibilities

• Design and implementation of web applications, specialising in the user interface of the product
• Perform hands-on software development tasks, such as prototyping, feature development, bug fixing, browser testing
• Liaise with the product architect and developers on software design, dependencies and code maintainability
• Liaise with the UI designers on design and implementation of interfaces
• Provide time and size estimates for project tasks

• Promote the use of HTML & CSS best practice across the company

Required Skills

• Extensive hands-on experience in standards-compliant efficient HTML & CSS
• Experience implementing complex interfaces across multiple platforms and browsers
• Passion for semantics, usability, efficiency and performant code
• Initiative and the ability to work independently to drive development

• Excellent communication skills

Preferred Skills

• UI design chops – knowing visually what works and what doesn’t
• Experience with JavaScript – we use JQuery
• Experience building Ajaxified web apps
• Used to working in a source-controlled environment
• Experience with agile software development methodologies like XP and Scrum

• Keen to learn more about new languages and frameworks

Typical Experience

• 4 years in a professional standards-based web development role
