11 Explosive Blogging Tips

Michael Dunlop runs a very successful blogging ‘business’ and he is only 20 years old. I was fortunate to grab some awesome advice on the subject of blogging from this self-made blogtrepreneur!

1) Design is vital.

When considering a blog re-design make sure you involve your readership. The whole purpose of a blog is to engage a community and have two-way interaction. Serve your clients well and they will serve you too. A great looking design makes you an authority in your market and shows others you care. Quality custom designs are cheap to buy and easy to install.

2) Blogging can set you free.

At 20 years of age Michael truly has a leveraged ‘business’ model that almost runs itself. While his friends are packing supermarket shelves, Michael is orchestrating a user generated content cash machine. You can blog anywhere you like about anything you like. There are no physical goods to deliver, no ’staff’, no premises and no major cash outlays.

3) The bulk of the work can be done by other people.

Michael has figured out that interviews rely on other people to generate all the great content and all he does is manage it. By joining a forum on to his ‘community’ Michael has a user generated content factory. He even has other people post to his blog for him and pays them from advertising proceeds…

4) Blogging opens big doors.

When you have a Blog you have access to more people. Apart from your audience you have your guests. Michael has found owning a blog has opened doors for him and he has created relationships with many famous and smart people. He gets priority access to many of the richest people around. Asking for interviews is a great way to network.

5) Segment your business.

Michael splits his business into three parts. Blog, Forum and Interviews. By managing each part as a department he can focus on running it efficiently. The majority of the ‘work’ is outsourced so he only has to project manage.

6) Hire smart.

It costs a lot of time and money when you hire the wrong people. Michael has made the same mistake many others have by hiring someone who was under-experienced. It took over a year to fix the damage caused. Be slow to hire and fast to fire.

7) Creative Content brings traffic.

If you focus some energy on being creative you can hit the traffic jackpot. Lists are very compelling for readers because we all love lists. Controversial posts can be equally as effective due to our love of disaster and debate. Make sure your content is valuable and original. The more appealing it is the more traffic you will generate from outside sources linking back to you.

Inspire others.

If you help others and inspire others through valuable instruction and value based information you will create a very loyal and passionate following. The more helpful tools and resources you give the more you win. Make sure you promote with integrity rather than chase the most lucrative offers. Your readers will appreciate it.

9) You have choices when it comes to Monetization.

The banners with advertising provide stable income whilst affiliate offers give you the chance for more or less earnings. It is important to test. One way to magnify earnings is to create review charts on your site for the most often required resources. Michael steers people into his comparison review pages where people have a chance to compare and choose between different offers. They feel like they are making the decision to buy rather than being forced.

10) Plugins should be used sparingly.

Keep your blog simple and easy for people to use. The overuse of plugins can cause technical and usability issues. Most professional bloggers have just a few favorite plugins they swear by and the rest is customized to make the blog more powerful. Wordpress is the best platform to base a blog on.

11) Outsourcing leverages your advertising $$.

You can get other people to compile lists and research any topic you desire for less than $50. Once you post those lists you can experience huge traffic spikes. This is more effective than PPC or paid advertising because when you put that content on your blog you get the leverage of your investment forever rather than just one time.

Michael has several blogs and his most famous one is www.RetireAt21.com. Look out for my new blog re-design over the coming weeks!
