Digital Eskimo is seeking a talented and inventive Technical Director who wants to take a leadership role in the creation of innovative technical solutions that contribute to our mission of leading the design industry in sustainable innovation.
The Technical Director will lead the development of a diverse range of complex digital projects, managing both internal and external teams in the process. We continually experiment and explore the opportunities digital technology offers our clients and you will be a pivotal member of our team, turning the agency’s ideas into reality through your technical expertise and your proven ability to deliver.
You will be working collaboratively with a passionate and dedicated team of designers, producers and developers who believe strongly in the environment and sustainable business practices we pioneer as much as producing award-winning design and technical solutions.
The Technical Director will:
- Take the lead design role in the assessment, choice and implementation of development frameworks for our digital projects
- Provide estimates for project development
- Take responsibility for output of the development team (both in-house and contract resources), ensuring we deliver robust, quality code according to project briefs
- Act as the manager of the in-house development team (including performance reviews and training)
- Represent the development team in the strategic planning and design of the production process across the organization
Essential skills / experience:
- Strong knowledge of open source technologies (e.g. Plone, Drupal, Django)
- Understanding of development for the web, and relevant open standards
- Understanding and experience utilising Agile development methodologies
- Ideally 6+ years as a developer and 2+ years managing development teams
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- Good understanding of business context and commercial constraints
- Experience managing internal & remote resources
- Ability to identify and implement industry leading working practices to augment and refine Digital Eskimo’s existing development, documentation and quality assurance processes
Highly desirable attributes:
- Advanced skills in Python and PHP
- Dedicated to sustainability and the transition to a sustainable economy
- Interest in user-centred designs for the web and an understanding of the role of technology in creating them
