Social Network Developer

at SportsHydrant in Sydney

Would you like to work for a new Australia-based social networking startup?

We need a Swiss Army Knife in human form to configure, code, extend and tweak our social networking platform. You’ll definitely need HTML, JavaScript and CSS talents. Familiarity with content management systems will help a lot. You’ll also be expected to take the lead in managing the development environment by maintaining dev and test servers and keeping a handle on the code repo, issue tracker and project management tools. If you have a good eye for user experience that will help – someone deep in the code but that gets user needs is a must.

Ideally, you’ll be based in Sydney, but if you’re not, don’t let that stop you from applying.

You will be dealing with other people, so being able to sit down with our front-end folks or the design agency and give them guidance as well as talk to clients online and real life will be a must.

For senior level applicants, we want someone who can manage a small team.

Here’s the actual skill set:

  • Experience in development with any platform (PHP, Ruby, Java) and an enthusiastic attitude to learning new skills. At least a year’s experience for Junior applicants, 3+ years for Senior applicants
  • HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability work under tight deadlines
  • Strong understanding of social networking
  • Server build and configuration skills – Apache, Tomcat, RoR, PHP
  • Development environment management – SVN and Trac, Ant
