Web Directions North returns for 2009
News has been trickling out for the last few days, so we thought we’d make it official - yes, Web Directions North will return for 2009. After two fantastic years, how could it not!
However, there are a few changes afoot. The conference this year moves from Vancouver to the Grand Hyatt in Denver for a variety of reasons. With the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010, and Dave Shea moving away from the city, we did need a new home. And at this time of year (winter) the East of Canada is, to say the least, a little chilly.
So we set out on an extensive hunt for a North American city that
- is highly accessible (Denver being a hub city for a number of airlines including United, means affordable non stop flights from most major cities in North America)
- has excellent facilities
- is an interesting destination
- has world class snow sports close by
Denver very much met all our criteria. The fact that it is home to a vibrant web scene was a great bonus.
We’re currently finalizing the speaker lineup, though once again there’ll be two days of workshops (February 2 and 3), two days of conference (February 4 and 5), and skiing, boarding or just relaxing at the world famous Breckenridge ski resort.
Topics covered will include
- Web site performance
- Web application security
- Taking web applications offline
- CSS3 and Advanced CSS
- Web graphics with SVG and Canvas
- Interaction Design
- Accessibility
- Real world Semantic Web technologies
- Javascript libraries
- User Testing
and many more, from a fantastic array of presenters.
Registration will open in a week or so, with the same great value as previous years. Keep track of all the news via the folowing
