Introducing Aconex, our student scholarship sponsor

Since we started Web Directions, we’ve tried to make the conference accessible as possible. Which doesn’t just mean accessible to people with special needs, but also as affordable as possible. One way we do this is by making the conference as reasonably priced as possible. Now, you might say $1050 is a pretty significant price, and it’s certainly not chicken feed, but we do have early bird pricing, and even bigger discounts for past attendees. Even $1050 works out to be about the price of a cup of coffee every working day of the year.

But certainly one area in which affordability is an issue is for students. So to address this, we’ve always offered student pricing, for full time students, at cost - simply the cost of catering and other per head costs like the conference bag, not the cost of speakers, the venue and so on. We also offer places to indigenous students free of charge.

This year, Aconex, who develop online document management and web collaboration tools, have generously offered to support our scholarships as the Web Directions Student Scholarship enabler. Many many thanks to Aconex - and this should enable us to extend the scholarship in future.

Make sure you keep an eye out for the students at the conference - many I am sure will be looking for internships, and job opportunities. Web Directions has in fact now hired one of the students who attended last year full time. You know the students who come will be really committed - as they’ve paid to attend (this is a principle reason we have a fee). So if you are looking for an intern or employee, these folks will be an excellent place to start.
