We want a senior Rails developer to drive the implementation of a multimedia social web application server with a world class JSON API and multiple mobile clients. Your days will involve busy mornings liaising with design, business and development teams and long afternoons in our airy office overlooking the Sydney skyline.
Some things you will find yourself doing:
- Creating a product you would love to use
- Cutting up designs and making them feel just right
- Supporting our iPhone and J2ME clients via a JSON API
- Building iPhone web applications, Dashboard widgets and other cool gadgetry
- Integrating with Youtube, Flickr, and all the other sites you know and love
- Publishing useful code for the benefit of others
- Hiding microformats everywhere
- Test driven development
Essential:
- 2+ years professional Rails (1.x and 2.x) experience
- Some examples of work you’re proud of (sites, libraries, design, etc.)
- Ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams
- Ability to bring ideas from concept through to design, code and polish
- Strong front end skills, including standards-based HTML/CSS, cross-browser compatibility and use of behavioural Javascript
- A deep understanding of the Rails stack, from routes & resources to records
Desirable:
- Knowledge of XHTML-MP (WAP), and the limitations of the mobile platform
- Sending/receiving of SMS & email
- Use of Google Analytics / Webmaster Tools
- Experience with Capistrano for deployment
- Able to find your way around on a Linux box
Overseas applicants are welcome, provided you’re willing to relocate yourself for a minimum of 9 months.
