You won’t get frustrated with bureaucracy and slow decision making and we encourage (not stifle!) creative thinking and want to know your opinion – on everything we do!

What you’ll do:

Working in our Sydney CBD Head Office as Design Manager, you’ll lead our talented team of UI and visual designers and work with us on improving the usability and design of our popular and award-winning products.

You’ll be responsible for developing and advocating the vision for the Design Team, and for providing mentoring and guidelines on user-centered and interface design. You’ll conduct user research to evaluate the usability of our products, and use this data to identify and recommend design improvements to the product managers.

We’re serious about quality and innovation, so you’ll be promoting design quality and usability as a core part of Atlassian’s product development culture. We invest a lot in our process, so you’ll be helping to evaluate the Design Team’s performance and agile process, looking for ways to optimise interactions with product management, development, marketing, and the rest of the Atlassian team. We’re also serious about our customers, so you’ll be responsible for ensuring the Design Team’s project commitments are consistently achieved.

  • Proactive and pragmatic team management approach
  • Strong communication, organisation and planning skills

Preferred Skills:

  • 2+ years of directly managing people, including interviewing, hiring, training, and performance appraisals
  • Broad knowledge of the software industry and software development project lifecycles
  • We use an agile development process; any experience working with agile-style methodologies is a plus.

Read what some of our team members have to say about life at Atlassian:

“The culture is so refreshing compared to my previous employment in large corporations. The openness of information, the willingness to use new technology (such as using wikis instead of Word documents), daily stand-up meetings to promote communication without the drudgery of long meetings, the honesty of the product offering—they make me love coming to work each day.”

— John Rotenstein, internal systems

“It’s been fun from the first interview … I still can’t quite believe that this qualifies as ‘work’.”

— Kate Ellingburg, sr. developer

“Working for Atlassian honestly makes me wonder why other companies can’t get it right . . . this is how work should be.”

— Michael Seager, sales team member{quote}
